From January to May 2025, the cumulative total volume of goods trade between China and Indonesia reached 62.958 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 11.0%, maintaining a steady overall growth momentum.

In the first five months, China's total imports from Indonesia amounted to 29.507 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%; during the same period, exports to Indonesia reached 33.451 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%, with export growth significantly outpacing import growth.

This trend indicates that Indonesia's dependence on the Chinese market has further deepened, especially in key areas such as energy, minerals and agricultural products.

From Indonesia's perspective, this trend reflects its deepening dependence on the Chinese market, particularly in key sectors including energy, minerals, and agricultural products.

Energy and minerals have long been Indonesia's advantageous industries, while China, as the world's largest manufacturing country, has a sustained and substantial demand for these resources.

Indonesia's abundant energy and mineral resources are continuously transported to China, providing a solid guarantee for China's industrial production.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's agricultural products have found a broad market in China. As Chinese consumers' demand for high-quality agricultural products continues to grow, Indonesian characteristic agricultural products such as fruits and coffee have gained increasing popularity in the Chinese market.

For China, the rapid growth in exports to Indonesia demonstrates the strong competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry and its diversified product supply capacity.

China's electronic products, mechanical equipment, building materials and other products have significant cost-performance and quality advantages in the Indonesian market, which can meet the needs of Indonesia's economic development and infrastructure construction.

With the in-depth advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, cooperation between China and Indonesia in areas such as infrastructure construction, energy development and manufacturing has been continuously strengthened, providing new impetus for the growth of bilateral trade.

Looking ahead, the prospect of trade cooperation between China and Indonesia is very broad. The two sides can further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure construction and other fields, promote trade liberalization and facilitation, and jointly address global economic challenges.

At the same time, the two sides can enhance cooperation in emerging areas such as technological innovation, digital economy and green development, foster new economic growth points, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results as well as common development.
